The EN/IEC 61000-4-21 standard describes how Immunity, Emission and other measurements are performed in a reverberation chamber.
The exact title of this standard is: "IEC 61000-4-21: Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) - Part 4-21: Testing and measurement techniques - Reverberation chamber test methods"
This review is based on the 2011 version.
Some random remarks and notes:
- Before a test a 'quick check' chamber performance measurement should be made to ensure that the loading of the chamber is less than the original chamber validation.
- ...
The field within the chamber is considered uniform if the standard deviation is lower than a predefined value.
Frequency range | below 100 MHz | 100 - 400 MHz | above 400 MHz |
---|---|---|---|
Accepted standard deviation | 4 dB | 3 dB increasing linearly to 4 dB | 3 dB |
The specific measurements are described in several Annexes:
- Annex A: Reverberation chamber overview
- Annex B: Chamber validation for mode-tuned operation
- Annex C: Chamber validation and testing for mode-stirred operation
- Annex D: Radiated immunity tests
- Annex E: Radiated emission measurements
- Annex F: Shielding effectiveness measurements of cable assemblies, cables, connectors, waveguides and passive microwave components
- Annex G: Shielding effectiveness measurements of gaskets and materials
- Annex H: Shielding effectiveness measurements of enclosures
- Annex I: Antenna efficiency measurements
- Annex J: Direct evaluation of reverberation performance using field anisotropy and field inhomogeneity coefficients
- Annex K: Measurement uncertainty for chamber validation - Emission and immunity testing
