GPIB-Board is not controller in charge (CIC) GPIB: ECIC

A device driver is trying to control a GPIB device through a GPIB board which is not the controller in charge. There normally is one 'master' (called: Controller In Charge (CIC)) on the GPIB bus. This error is raised, when it is detected that the GPIB board in the PC is not the 'master' of the GPIB anymore.

This could for example happen, when the GPIB board is not correctly connected in the PC, or when there are two PC's with each a GPIB board connected to the same GPIB Bus.

Very often we have seen that this problem is triggered when the PCI GPIB board is not correctly fitted in the PCI bus of the PC.

Solution

  • Is a USB GPIB board used? Is it correctly connected to the PC?
  • Change the GPIB communication settings of the device driver to use the correct GPIB0 board.
  • Has the GPIB board in the PC be changed to for example GPIB1 or GPIB2?
  • Is the GPIB board in the PC correctly installed, for instance is the PCI card properly inserted in the PCI bus of the PC?
  • It is also strongly advised to upgrade to the latest version of the GPIB software provided by the GPIB board manufacturer.
