A signal generator is a piece of equipment that is used during EMC measurements. It's primary purpose is to generate a RF signal that is used to create an electromagnetic field. Very often the generated RF signal is amplified by an Amplifier before it is applied to the Antenna.
Not all available signal generators are able to generate AM, FM or PM. For those signal generators, the device driver will just ignore the request to activate the not supported modulation types.
Signal generators are only used during Immunity tests.
All the device drivers for signal generators maintain the following information:
- Allowed frequency range
- Instructions how to:
- Change RF carrier frequency
- Change level of the generated RF signal
- Apply AM, FM, PM modulation
A complete list of all supported signal generators by RadiMation is available on this RadiWiki site.
